Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for “Devotion: Obedience or Betrayal,” a three-part documentary series that will stream exclusively on the platform starting Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
The documentary takes a close look at Gloriavale, a religious community with strict policies and a well-defined chain of command, which has existed for more than 50 years, with men being dominant over women. The documentary was made amid allegations of sexual abuse and a possible cover-up within the community.
The documentary includes years of never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with past and present members of the community. In the documentary, one can see a community divided between questions of faith, obedience, and survival. According to the producers, life in Gloriavale resembles Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale.
All three episodes will be available on the day of release.
“Devotion: Obedience or Betrayal” was directed by Nicole Rittenmeyer. Dame Julie Christie, DNZM, is the executive producer of NHNZ. Susan Zirinsky and Terence Wrong are the executive producers of See It Now Studios, while Aysu Saliba and Cara Tortora serve as supervising producers.
