Peacock has released the official trailer for PONIES, an eight-part spy thriller series. The show revolves around two overlooked women who are drawn into a dangerous Cold War and highlights how easily they are overlooked.

PONIES takes place in Moscow in 1977, where it follows two “persons of no interest,” or PONIES, working in a secretarial capacity at the American Embassy. They are classified as PONIES because they are invisible, and this anonymity is used to their benefit. When their husbands suspiciously perish in the Soviet Union, they go from being on the fringes of society to being within the realm of the CIA.

Emilia Clarke stars as Bea, an exceptionally smart Russian-speaking daughter of Soviet immigrants whose intelligence has been overlooked her whole life. Haley Lu Richardson stars as Twilla, a fearless and direct small-town girl who will not settle for pleasing other people. They both begin to uncover a large Cold War-era secret in search of answers to the tragedy that left them both widows.

The series combines a personal tragedy with global consequences. The protagonists are not skilled spies but two women learning the ropes in an unauthorized way.

A Talented Team Stands Behind PONIES

PONIES is written by David Iserson, who is a co-creator, co-writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Other shows he has worked on include Mr. Robot and New Girl. Susanna Fogel, a creator of The Flight Attendant and The Spy Who Dumped Me, is a co-creator, director, and co-writer. Mike Daniels is an executive producer and a showrunner. His work includes Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and The Village.

Other executive producers include Jessica Rhoades, who worked on Black Mirror, Station Eleven, and Dirty John. Clarke is a series regular and executive producer.

Supporting actors include Adrian Lester, Artjom Gilz, Nicholas Podany, Petro Ninovskyi, and Vic Michaelis, each representing an element of the time period they lived in.

A Spy Story with Eight Hours to Spare

Universal Television produces PONIES, a series comprising eight 60-minute episodes. The series format provides an opportunity to incorporate elements of espionage with other aspects such as development, shifting loyalties, and increasing paranoia.

Peacock will release all eight episodes at once on Thursday, January 15, 2026, allowing viewers to binge this Cold War descent in a single sitting.

The coming trailer gives a first look at a moody Moscow setting, engaging dialogue with mounting tension, and a spy thriller in which the most serious threat comes from people you hadn’t thought to keep an eye on.
