Peacock has announced exciting plans for a new limited series, “LONG BRIGHT RIVER,” a suspense thriller starring and executive produced by renowned actress Amanda Seyfried. The series, based on Liz Moore’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, will delve into the gripping story of an underserved community dealing with Philadelphia’s opioid crisis.
“Long Bright River” is more than just a crime thriller; it explores a community’s collective resilience that is often overlooked. Liz Moore and Nikki Toscano, the show’s creators and executive producers, express their excitement for Amanda Seyfried to lead the project, emphasizing the show’s commitment to portraying the lives of addicts and their families compassionately.
At the heart of the series is Mickey, played by Seyfried, a police officer patrolling a Philadelphia neighborhood devastated by the opioid epidemic. As a series of murders unfolds, Mickey discovers a link to her personal history, adding complexity to the riveting story.
Nikki Toscano, known for her work on “The Offer” and “Hunters,” will serve as showrunner and executive producer, working alongside Liz Moore, the source material’s author. Sony Pictures Television and UCP, a Universal Studios Group division will produce the series.
Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Amanda Lewis for Original Film, and Amy Pascal for Pascal Pictures make up an impressive executive production team. Hagar Ben-Asher, known for her work on “Bad Boy” and “Dead Women Walking,” will direct the first episode and serve as executive producer.
