Netflix’ hit series, “Who Killed Sara?” has grabbed the attention of many. This series takes place in modern day Mexico focusing on the hierarchy of the Lazcano family, forbidden love and an unsolved murder mystery. Season 2 has finally aired, it’s even more chaotic and drama filled.

Actor Polo Morin who plays teenage “Jose Maria” opens up about his character’s representation, family and more. Jose Maria is a Lazcano, the powerful, crooked and wealthy family seem untouchable until “Alex” completes his jail bid for his sister’s murder that he didn’t commit. Karma has finally come for the Lazcano’s but, can Jose Maria make it right despite his families connections, protection and money?- “you’ll have to watch the show, I can’t give it away” Morin says.

Season 2 focuses on Morin’s character much more, from his relationship with his fiance Lorenzo, his family and assisting his sister Elisa on her personal investigation. I asked Morin “How did you feel about this season focusing on you?, so much is happening to Chema”. Morin states, “I was really sad, I’m thinking this is the end?, this is what happens to Jose Maria ?,I was bummed but the writer is a genius and always has a reason for everything. So whenever I feel like I don’t understand the show, I know there’s a reason to it.”

“I love Jose Maria, from the moment I read it. It’s a big responsibility because he represents a lot, part of a community that can identify. It makes me happy, it’s like one of the first times a gay character is being represented in that way, being the family guy, married guy, wanting to adopt, and he’s a pretty sweet character.”- that he is but, he’s strong, a leader and intelligent. Jose Maria aka Chema is the strongest between both of the Lazcano brothers but isn’t given the respect or family business due to his sexuality.

“Family over everything” is heavily reminded in the murder mystery. As season 2 unravels we start to see just how much the Lazcano’s despise their family, their legacy and evil ways. I asked Morin “Do you feel it’s still family over everything even if your family may not be good?”.
Morin responds “I think it’s true but, I don’t think family is blood. You pick your family because in real life there’s a whole bunch of families and you pick your families, and if they show they’re your family then yes, I believe it’s family over everything.”
