The first trailer and poster have dropped for the highly-anticipated espionage thriller The Amateur, starring Oscar® winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Academy Award® nominee Laurence Fishburne (What’s Love Got to Do with It), and audiences can get an exhilarating first look at some of the high-stakes action. Directed by James Hawes, the film opens in theaters nationwide on April 11, 2025.
In The Amateur, Malek plays Charlie Heller, a brilliant yet deeply introverted decoder working for the CIA in a basement office at the agency’s headquarters in Langley. Heller’s quiet life is shattered when his wife is tragically killed in a terrorist attack in London. When the agency refuses to take immediate action, Heller decides to take matters into his own hands. Consumed by sorrow and the need for revenge, he launches a risky, worldwide pursuit of the villains to bring them before the bar. With little more than his intelligence expertise to guide him, Heller becomes an unstoppable force: hunted by many while avenging his wife’s death.
The film also features talent from the likes of Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Caitríona Balfe (Outlander), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me by Your Name), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown), Adrian Martinez (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), and Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful). The story also boasts a Laurence Fishburne in a vital role, bringing his signature gravitas to this tightly wound narrative.
