Donate To These Organizations To Help Victims of the Maui Wildfires

Following wildfires that ravaged the historic town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, thousands of Hawaiian residents have been forced to relocate.

Many people were ordered to evacuate after several neighborhoods burned due to the fires being fueled by Hurricane Dora’s strong winds.

Some Hawaii residents sought refuge in the ocean to escape the fires. As of August 10th, there have been at least 36 fatalities and 11,000 evacuations as a result of the wildfires.

Since the US Civil Air Patrol and the Maui Fire Department reported that roughly 271 structures were damaged or destroyed by the fires, Hawaii’s governor Josh Green has estimated that billions of dollars will be needed to fully recover.

A list of resources to assist those affected by natural disasters is provided below.

Donate to these Organizations:

  • The Maui Strong Fund: The fund is currently being used to support communities affected by the wildfires on Maui.
  • MAUI FIRE VICTIMS: Aunty Sandys Banana Bread is organizing this fundraiser.
  • Maui Food Bank: With every $1 donated, the Maui Food Bank can provide 4 meals to the hungry living in our island community. Give now and together we can make a difference.
  • Aloha United Way: The organization has created the Maui Relief Fund that will go directly to efforts supporting victims of the fires.
  • Maui Humane Society: Their mission is to protect and save the lives of Maui’s animals, accepting all in need, educating the community, and inspiring respect and compassion towards all animals.
  • Hawaii Salvation Army will start providing meals for thousands displaced in Maui emergency shelters.

Open shelters on Maui:

  • Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani
  • Maui High School Gym in Kahului
    • Officials said at least 1,200 taking shelter at the high school.
  • War Memorial Gym in Wailuku
  • King’s Cathedral
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
  • Kahului Airport
    • 1,800 people sheltered in place overnight at the airport with many west side highways closed. The state Transportation Department worked with airlines/TSA to shelter passengers for safety’s sake as wildfires continue to burn in Lahaina and Upcountry.

Drop-off shelter donations at Maui’s War Memorial Complex:

  • Maui Police Department is calling for donations of non-perishable food, bottled water, hygiene items, and blankets.
  • Those interested in dropping off donations should enter the complex through Kanaloa Avenue and drop off goods on the field to the left.
  • Donations will be accepted through 6 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. Thursday.

Drop off goods at certain local Maui businesses:

  • Ice cream shop Cream B and Hoomana Barbell Gym are organizing donations at 1826 Kaohu St.
  • The businesses are asking for donations of food, drinks, snacks, bedding, pillows, and personal hygiene products.
