Sophomore college soccer player Paige Ostroushko, from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, is being investigated after an altercation between the student-athlete and a conservative activist at an anti-ICE demonstration in Minneapolis.
After the fight with the activist, Savanah Hernandez (@Savsays on Instagram), Paige deleted her account. Hernandez, who goes by @Savsays, is associated with Turning Point USA, a charitable organization that promotes limited government, free markets, and fiscal responsibility.
It all happened on Saturday while demonstrators were staging an anti-ICE protest. Savanah claims she was there to shoot B-Roll video for the organization, not to interview participants. “I was assaulted, chased off a public street, and beaten,” said Hernandez after watching the video from her angle.
Several clips found online seem to show Paige wearing a black and white jacket, blowing a whistle at Savanah Hernandez, and then apparently either punching or shoving her into a chain-link fence. The video also seems to show the mother of Paige going after Hernandez, and then the father of the athlete, Chris Ostroushko, shoving Hernandez to the ground.
According to the authorities, several individuals involved in the altercation may be charged. Hennepin County Sheriffs confirmed arrests and charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction with force in relation to the event. Ostroushko’s boyfriend, Lorenzo Amadeo Garcia, was arrested at the scene and charged with probable cause of obstruction of the process of law; Paige has been released.
Previously, Ostroushko’s father was also seen participating in another similar protest held in January of 2018. Chris Ostroushko and his relatives, as well as William Scott Kelly, another individual, are currently under investigation initiated by the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the United States Department of Justice.
It remains unknown whether Paige will face federal charges and whether she will be allowed to continue playing soccer for the team. So far, the university hasn’t made any comments regarding this issue. In the team roster, Ostroushko is listed as a 5-foot-7 forward/midfielder who played in 7 matches during the 2025 season, making 6 starts and scoring 3 goals.
As stated in the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Student-Athlete Handbook, harmful actions, like physical violence, are never acceptable and “will not be tolerated.” Any violation of the rules could lead to a player’s dismissal from the team or even expulsion from the university.
Paige Ostroushko, who formerly studied at Shattuck-St. Mary’s school is a sophomore now. During a live stream on her father’s account, Paige said she considered herself the victim of the situation.
