A TikTok user known as Chihiro recently uploaded a workplace interaction from years ago that suddenly took on greater significance.

In the video, she narrates a conversation that took place about a decade ago, when she was working part-time with her African American colleague. As they talked, she was asked whether she was a “night rider,” a slang term for a woman interested in African American men.

According to Chihiro, she did not understand what the term meant back then and interpreted it literally.

“I didn’t know what that meant. ” I literally thought it meant someone who, like, rides their bike at night or something,” Chihiro said, adding that riding bikes was one of the common things among her and other colleagues at work. “‘Everyone at the workplace like knew I was like I rode my bike like I ride my bike everywhere, so I was like yeah, I’m a night rider.'”

She soon clarified that she had gotten it wrong, as her friend corrected her right away.

As Chihiro revealed, she responded by sharing her literal translation, after which he told her, “That’s not what it means.”

Now, she finds it amusing, since she is really the type described as a “night rider.”

“It’s just funny because like I actually am that now,” she confessed.
