Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Blasts “Rigged System” as Soldier Faces 50 Years While Congress Gets $200 Insider Trading Slaps

A Florida representative is drawing attention to the huge discrepancy between how insiders are penalized in the military versus Congress. For instance, a distinguished member of the military may receive a prison sentence of several decades, while a lawmaker would only have to pay a small fine.

Specifically, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., raised concerns about Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke using confidential information about the U.S. plan against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to make over $400,000 on the Polymarket prediction market. If convicted, Van Dyke faces a potential 50-year jail sentence.

However, this cannot be compared to the penalties under the STOCK Act of 2012, which prohibits members of Congress from making investments based on non-public information obtained through official duties but fines violators as little as $200.

“If members of Congress are caught insider trading, it’s a small, couple-hundred-dollar fine. If you’re caught doing it in the military, like in MSgt Dykes’s case, you could be facing up to 50 years in prison,” Luna tweeted.

The representative went on to mention Nancy Pelosi’s impressive investment history, which Luna argues earned the former House speaker over 17,000% over the decades. Luna claims Pelosi has beaten both the S&P 500 and even Warren Buffett’s portfolio, posting gains of over 17,000%.

“It is statistically not possible for her to make a 17,000% return and outperform Warren Buffett without insider information,” Luna said. Luna further emphasized that those who fail to view congressional insider trading as a real issue must either be unintelligent or deliberately ignorant.
