Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida and First Lady Melania Trump have asked ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel, who was recently hosting a show in which he made jokes about Melania Trump “glow like an expectant widow.” This happened two days before a shooting incident occurred during the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
As per Rep. Luna, Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes are far from comedy. In her statement, Rep. Luna said, “Jimmy Kimmel isn’t doing comedy, he’s pushing hateful, hostile rhetoric that poisons the country and puts real targets on real people. Right after an assassination attempt too. Why does ABC keep handing him the mic? Until the media is held accountable for promoting violence, they’re complicit.”
Mrs. Trump also condemned Kimmel’s behavior, saying his words were politically motivated and meant to divide the country.
“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country,” Melania Trump tweeted. “His monologue about my family isn’t comedy, his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.”
Mrs. Trump also called Kimmel out on using ABC as a shelter to protect himself from the backlash, writing, “hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.” She added, “It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”
Rep. Luna made this statement as part of her comments about yet another assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, whose identity she didn’t reveal in detail. But she has raised doubts about ABC continuing to give Kimmel a platform in light of the recent events.
