Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari claimed on Thursday that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “murdered” a 26-year-old Colombian man who was lawfully authorized to work in the United States at a traffic stop in Maine, less than a week after the death of another man in Houston during an encounter with ICE.
“News just broke that ICE murdered another person today,” Ansari said in her video posted on TikTok. “A 26-year-old in Maine who had work authorization, who had a Social Security number. Witnesses described it as an execution.”
Based on available information, an ICE officer fired shots after the driver attempted to flee towards the officers at the scene.
The incident in Maine followed one in Texas about a week ago, where Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52 years old, was reportedly killed, and Ansari accused ICE again of murder.
“This is just a week after ICE murdered 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas,” she noted. “A father, a construction worker, somebody who’d been in this country for decades.”
Salgado Araujo’s death was classified as a homicide, and the case remains under investigation. ICE disagrees with this classification, stating that Salgado Araujo struck an agency vehicle and tried to run over an officer.
“At what point are we going to realize that this is not, these are not isolated incidents, this is a pattern, a systematic pattern,” Ansari commented. “Because this is an agency that is racist, that is violent, that is a paramilitary force at the direction of Donald Trump and Steven Miller. And we need accountability.”
“It is undeniable at this point that we have to abolish ICE,” she continued. “I just got back to DC. I will be making the case on the House floor tomorrow about this. We need Republicans to step up and wake up.”
Arizona Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari pointed at Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine specifically since the shooting took place in her state. “This is Susan Collins’s estate,” Ansari said. “What is she gonna do? What is she gonna say about the fact that ICE just murdered somebody in her state? Somebody who was here with legal status? This is getting so out of hand.”
Ansari concluded the video with a call for citizens’ actions. “Americans across this country, I urge you to step up,” she said. “I urge you to speak out, call your representatives, demand accountability, demand oversight, and demand that ICE be abolished. Because otherwise, we’re going to see grieving family after grieving family. With ICE in its current form today.”

@repyassansari #ICE just murdered a 26-year-old man in Maine, less than a week after they murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas. Tomorrow, I’ll take to the House floor to demand accountability and make the case for abolishing ICE. This state-sanctioned violence must end. #abolishICE #immigration
