Rep. Ilhan Omar Reacts After 11th Person Killed by ICE Since Trump’s Second Term: “These Are Not Isolated Incidents”

Rep. Ilhan Omar tweeted that since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has killed eleven people. She stated that such deaths are the result of what she termed a “cruel, violent system” and that the government should abolish ICE.

Omar tweeted: “ICE has fatally shot 11 people since Donald Trump’s second term began. These are not isolated incidents. They are the predictable result of a cruel, violent system. Abolish ICE.”

The tweet is part of a long-standing push for shutting down the organization.

According to her numbers, the shootings mentioned by the politician include the most recent incident where ICE agents opened fire in Biddeford, Maine. The shooting took place when an ICE agent shot a person in a car. According to the statement released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the shooting occurred as a man attempted to drive towards an agent.

The deceased is a 26-year-old Colombian national, according to the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition and the activist group Presente! He had the right to work in the United States and possessed a Social Security number. Markwayne Mullin, the Homeland Security secretary, told Senator Angus King of Maine that the man was not the subject of the warrant issued by ICE, King’s office said.

The latest shooting comes less than a week after an ICE agent shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo while pursuing him in a vehicle in Houston. As per a report published by NBC News, DHS officials claim that the man used the van as a weapon against the officers. However, there is a doubt regarding the story in Texas, as reported by NBC News.

Both incidents follow the killing of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis in January by the ICE agency within a month. DHS claims that Renee Good attempted to drive over an ICE officer during the encounter, but the local officials denied the information. Less than three weeks later, another officer fatally shot Alex Pretti, NBC News reported.

ICE arrests have increased recently. More than 1,300 and 1,100 arrests have been made on a Saturday and a Sunday, respectively, according to a report published by NBC News, citing a source familiar with the operation.

Several news organizations have claimed that ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents are involved in twenty to thirty shooting incidents since Trump’s second term in office, mostly involving drivers trying to flee from or attack the agents.
