Rep. Yassamin Ansari On House GOP Canceling September Votes: “Republicans Are Such Losers”

Congresswoman Yassmin Ansari of the Democratic Party accused Republicans in the House of cutting two weeks from their scheduled September meetings, saying she believed leadership wanted to devote more time to campaigning ahead of the midterm elections.

“Republicans are such losers,” Ansari stated in her TikTok video, which she posted on social media.

Congress briefly returned to sessions after the summer recess to pass a stopgap spending bill and cut off four meeting days until another six-week recess.

Rep. Ansari, who represents Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, recorded herself walking through a public place on her way home during the prolonged recess. The Congresswoman began her TikTok video by noting the location and the short session time.

“Well, guys, I’m back at the airport after just four days in DC following an extended vacation, uh, that Republicans sent us on. In July and August,” she explained.

Then the Representative went on to talk about the short legislative agenda and its connection to the upcoming midterm elections.

“Mike Johnson just announced today that they are canceling Congress for the last two weeks of September, and October is already going to be recess. Because that’s what it’s like during election years,” Ansari commented.

The congresswoman rejected the legislation discussed and voted upon during the brief session.

“We had the stupidest votes possible this week, honestly, like random nonsense, including a resolution to condemn socialism,” she said.

Ansari criticized the House for making decisions that do not solve the problems that she saw as the most pressing ones for the country.

“And at a time when we’re still in month seven of Donald Trump’s illegal war on Iran, when gas prices are higher than ever, when people can’t afford their rent or groceries, Republicans aren’t putting forward any legislation to fix any of these things,” Ansari said.

She continued by emphasizing the large amount of undone work, which makes the decision to adjourn quite controversial.

“I mean, think about the amount of work there is to do, and they’re choosing to cancel everything. Nothing to regulate AI, nothing. Like, nothing,” she said.

Her criticism grew harsher as she turned to the language she used in her video post.

“It’s just pathetic. They’re losers. Republicans are all losers,” Ansari said.

The congresswoman also linked the legislative process to Republicans’ reluctance to meet with the president.

“They’re all scared of Trump still. They still don’t want to be associated with him because he’s the most unpopular president. So a bunch of them aren’t going to the Republican convention next week,” Ansari noted.

The Representative ended her video by predicting the political implications of the decision for the party that now holds the majority in the House.

“Oh, god, it’s just exhausting. And Americans deserve so much better than this. People in my district and across the country are outraged. That’s why Republicans are going to lose. We’re going to take back the House,” she said.

She ended the video as she boarded a plane.

“But that’s the update. Hoping for a smooth flight,” Ansari said.
