Inde Navarrette To Star In Apple Science Fiction Thriller “The Waffle House Index”

Inde Navarrette will join the cast of The Waffle House Index, a science fiction thriller acquired by Apple Original Films.

A tale about a Waffle House waitress will unfold when her already bad night gets even worse due to a gunman who decides to visit the establishment during the night shift. What follows is a flood, dangerous crocodiles, a nuclear explosion, a secret bunker underneath the restaurant, and finally meeting some aliens.

Also, The Hollywood Reporter says Navarrette will become an executive producer for the first time in her career. Deadline says the script deal was worth several figures. Plan B will produce the project, with Louis Paxton directing and Andrew Nunnelly writing. Deadline says it was announced on the 2025 Black List.

Apple Studios will work as the studio. Louis Paxton got the NEXT Innovator Award from the 2026 Sundance Film Festival for The Incomer.

The movie’s title references The Waffle House Index, an unofficial tool that measures hurricane strength by how well a Waffle House, which operates all day long, can operate. Green means normal service and little damage, yellow means a limited menu and a lack of food and drinks, and red means the restaurant is closed because of bad weather.

The project represents another collaboration between Apple and Plan B, a production company of Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner, which helped produce the Pitt racing drama F1.

Recently, Plan B released the horror movie Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma and is preparing to shoot the drama The Bell Jar by Sarah Polley. Navarrette was recently cast as Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie.

Previously, she starred as Estela De La Cruz in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why (season 4) and made appearances in The CW’s Superman & Lois. CAA, Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobsen represent her.
