Luna Shadows is ready to share everything she’s feeling with the world.

Shadows has released her new single, “gutspill.” In it, she lets her emotions flow freely, blending sharp guitars inspired by the Midwest emo scene with the dreamy, electronic sounds that are now Shadows’ trademark.

The track was co-written and co-produced by Chris Freeman of Hot Mulligan. Shadows’ take on nostalgia is bold, combining the immediacy of early-2000s pop punk and alternative music with the atmospheric sound she is known for. She has her sights set on a more fun, nostalgic, and emotive era.

“‘gutspill’ is a song about when you fear your feelings are about to fall out like confetti,” Shadows said. “You can try to hold them in or push them down, but ultimately, it’s more fun to let them out. Do it just for the plot. It’s a crush you can’t confess, an overwhelming emotion you can’t shake. It’s an ode to saying what you mean, even if you have to turn it into poetry and put it in a song.”

The song’s video, in which Shadows plays alongside Chris Freeman on guitar, is an equally light-hearted take on her usually more dramatic world. Using the aesthetics of the early 2000s pop-punk era, this is Shadows’ first proper band-style music video. Shadows herself directed, produced, art directed, and edited the video.

Luna Shadows composes and produces her music from her bedroom in Los Angeles. Like a spider, she creates an ethereal web of her own and pulls all the strings. Every song is a carefully thought-through production – a complete creation of her own imagination. Luna Shadows is a classically trained pianist who started writing songs as a child, at the age of 8. She studied vocals at LaGuardia High School before moving out west.

Over the last decade, she has carved out a unique niche in alternative pop. With each release, Luna Shadows evolves musically while being completely in control of her environment. Her music has been streamed more than 60 million times and supported by publications such as Billboard, NYLON, W Magazine, PAPER, Wonderland Magazine, and LADYGUNN. In addition to composing her music, Shadows has written, produced, and engineered for other artists, as well as composed and produced music for video games.

“gutspill” showcases Shadows’ decades-long passion for alternative music through a more fun and light-hearted approach.
