Woman Says People Who Go On Mission Trips Are “Some Of The Worst People I’ve Ever Met”

A TikToker has brought up an interesting topic by making a video where she claims that Christian mission trips are an example of white saviorism and encourages others not to do them.

The video was titled “‘Missionary work’ is white saviorism.” At the beginning, Kylie Brewer described her opinion about the people who have taken part in these trips.

“People who have done mission trips are genuinely some of the worst people I’ve ever met, and specifically the worst white people I’ve ever met,” Brewer said. “Because what other person is going to go and try to administer, quote, aid and help and bring food and water and religion and salvation? People who have white savior complexes.”

She said there were more ways to help and criticized how participants in these trips tend to portray themselves on the internet.

“And so again, there are a lot of ways to get involved if you want to help other than going to different countries, going to developing countries, snapping photos of a bunch of kids that have melanin, posing with you, and then posting it on your Instagram saying, god is great, god saves all,” she said.

She said there were more reasons people would do something like this.

“I think it’s because a lot of these white people know that they don’t have a lot going on in their personal lives other than, like, their youth group, their church, etcetera, and they wanna proclaim that they’re a good person by doing this, but in reality it’s incredibly patronizing, incredibly gross,” Brewer said.

And lastly, she questioned the efficiency of these trips and how the aid is provided.

“And mission trips in general don’t do much, if anything. People like this withhold aid and withhold the resources. Instead of giving it to these communities to build for themselves, they say no. This is the exact conditions under which you can receive help,” she said.

She finished the video with the following words:

“It’s just modern-day colonization. So if you’re considering doing this, please, please don’t,” Brewer said.
