Renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, are allegedly stabbed to death by their son, Nick Reiner, according to sources in PEOPLE. Their other child, daughter Romy Reiner, discovered the bodies.

Nick has publicly described personal struggles with drugs and alcohol, and being homeless, despite the wealth in the family. He worked on the 2015 film Being Charlie with screenwriter Matt Elisofon, which was written in support of Nick’s struggles with addiction. Nick Robinson told People magazine in an article circa 2015, ‘Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family.’ The movie received positive reviews and starred Nick Robinson, Cary Elwes, and Common.

TMZ reports that Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found dead on Sunday. He was 78 years old, and she was 68 years old, respectively. They were discovered with knife wounds in their bodies in their Brentwood, California, residence after the police were called on Sunday afternoon. Their residence, which was decked out in holiday decorations, was cordoned off by police. Their friends, Billy Crystal and Larry David, were seen visiting the residence, accompanied by Reiner’s assistant, Rocco.

His breakthrough role was as actor Mike ‘Meathead’ Stivic on All in the Family, which remains one of television’s most award-winning programs. He went on to establish a successful directing career with such films as This Is Spinal Tap (1984) and its 2025 sequel, Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Misery (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), The American President (1995), and a host of other successes. Reiner won two Emmy Awards for playing Mike Stivic on All in the Family (1971-1978). He appeared in The Jerk (1979), Throw Momma from the Train (1987), Postcards from the Edge (1990), Bullets Over Broadway (1994), and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).

Rob Reiner is the son of late comedian Carl Reiner and Estelle Reiner, who uttered the famous “I’ll have what she’s having” in “When Harry Met Sally…” Reiner married Michele Singer in 1989; he previously married Laverne & Shirley director Penny Marshall. They have Nick and Romy Reiner, and they are also parents to son Jake Reiner. Tracy Reiner from A League of Their Own is the son of Penny Marshall, but she died in 2018.
