A Russian couple who climbed the spire of the Empire State Building on Wednesday have been arrested. They unfurled a banner with a peace message, and during the ascent, he proposed to her.
The couple, named Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, scaled the 1,454-foot-high spire with a banner reading “when the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”
Upon reaching the summit, Beerkus knelt and presented a ring to Nikolau, who accepted it and admired it before starting to descend.
The police officers arrived at the summit and arrested both of them. It is not yet known by the authorities how the two had access to the building.
The couple is well-known for filming adventurous climbs of different famous buildings. They have been featured in the documentary titled “Skywalkers: A Love Story,” which will be released in 2024 on Netflix.
