Serena Williams overcomes a rolled ankle to advance to her 52nd major quarterfinal appearance, the 3rd-most among women in the Open Era. The six-time singles champion defeats Martic in straight sets and scores her 99th career victory in Flushing Meadows. Two years ago today, Serena gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia. Today she advances to her 16th quarterfinal at the U.S. Open.
