Surviving students and parents of victims in the Stoneman Douglas shooting are discussed gun control with various members of the US Senate in a CNN town hall. Some of the senators that attended were Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson.

They started off the night by taking time to remember the 17 people who lost their lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

.@jaketapper: "Before we begin tonight, we want to take some time to remember the 17 beloved members of the community who were murdered one week ago today." #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/0JuAnBIsYo https://t.co/2lQ2pkMZje

Donald Trump declined to be at the discussion at the CNN town hall. Personally I thought it was a smart decision by Trump not to attend this because he would have got shredded by parents and students. He would have been asked many difficult questions that he couldn’t answer.

Senator Marco Rubio started of compassionate to the families and friends who lost someone special. He talks about how he never lost a child and how as a country we are seperated. He says people aren’t talking to each other. If someone disagrees with our opinion we just stop talking to them.

Sen. Marco Rubio: “I think all of us would like to see action, but I want to tell you what we’re going to struggle with. We are a nation of people that no longer speak to each other” #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/jlUQTDBRkw

Fred Guttenberg the father of Jaime Guttenberg who was killed in Florida school shooting last week. Said Senator Rubio and Donald Trump comments on the shooting last week were weak. Marco Rubio believes gun control laws wouldn’t have prevented the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Rep. Ted Deutch was on the other side of Marco Rubio and believes we need to stat taking action now. Everytime there is shooting we say it’s too soon to talk about gun control laws. Well it’s also too late for the 17 victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. It’s also too late for the 58 victims who were gunned down in Las Vegas. For the people who say it’s too soon to talk about gun control laws. When is it the appropriate time to start talking about gun control laws?

Rep. Ted Deutch: A lot of people have told this community that it's too soon to talk about getting weapons of war out of our communities. "It is not too soon, it is too late for the 17 lives that were lost." https://t.co/cIFakLEhbs #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/mXZlupfLAq

Bill Nelson thinks we need to change some gun control laws. People don’t need assault weapons. You don’t use assault weapons to protect yourself or to go hunting. You use it to go war and to do malicious things to people and society. Bill Nelson also gave props to Marco Rubio for showing up tonight.

Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson to Samantha Grady, whose best friend died in the school shooting in Parkland, Florida: "When you get right down to it, the gun is what is going to do the killing" https://t.co/YEEYfj61CL #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/kHFKYAiwWO

The true million dollar question came from a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School named, Cameron Kasky he asked Senator Rubio if he will accept donations in the future from the NRA. Rubio responds by saying people buy into my agenda. Which means yes he will still be accepting money from the NRA.

Florida school shooting survivor Cameron Kasky challenges Sen. Marco Rubio: "Can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA?" https://t.co/LiU42QFBEv #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/p6jlUGFxOs

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel came after NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch for saying she stand with the people but thinks the NRA shouldn’t reduce guns.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel to NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch: “You just told this group of people that you are standing up for them. You're not standing up for them until you say, 'I want less weapons'” https://t.co/mTli3fm9tF #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/Buf7EYEDIp

Tonight, I believe people walked out of CNN town hall more positive about the direction we are taking to change gun control laws. Younger people can control our own destiny. We are the future of this country. We must come together and take actions to make sure we get the change that what we want in our country.

Young people are so powerful… #StudentsStandUp
