Talyn Jefferson is a student at Ottawa University. Jefferson was on the cheer team until her coach Casey Jamerson allegedly had a problem with her practicing with her bonnet because she was covering her braids to make sure she avoided to hit any of her teammates with them during practice.

“I was at cheers practice, and my coach told me that I needed to take my bonnet off. I explain to her that my bonnet is covering my braids so that they do not hit anyone in the face because they hurt and they’re 30 inches long.”

“From there she tells me that I am using my hair as an excuse. I told her I would rather not talk about this anymore because you don’t understand. That’s all I said.”

Jefferson continued, to reveal some more allegedly disturbing things Coach Jameson said to her at practice.

“I don’t understand! I do understand! I do black people’s hair! I’m a cosmetologist! I lived with a black girl for five years I do understand what’s it like to have hair like that.”

Coach Jamerson evidently kept on going with her rant by making smart comments and claimed her braids was hindering her performance, Jefferson says. Jefferson got kicked out of practice and the next day she got called into the office with the cheer director and coach Jamerson. The coach went on another crazy rant in the meeting.

“I know I’m not racist, it wasn’t micro-aggression, I work with black people, I do black people hair, I have a weave in my head right now.”

Jefferson claims after multiple meetings with the administrators they decided to kick her off the team instead of disciplining the coach for her actions. The administrators allegedly claimed that Talyn Jefferson needed counseling for her “anger issues,” which Jefferson says that’s not true. Jefferson also went on to say she has not been “written up, warned, suspend or had any type of misconduct” while attending Ottawa University. She wasn’t expelled or suspended from the school she was only removed from the cheer team.

The activist, Keiajah Brooks, helped shed light on this story, which led to Twitter digging up some very concerning and controversial things Coach Jamerson has said or done in her past.
