Tanzanian authorities finished their official investigation without taking further action. They decided that Ashlee Jenae, 31, took her life after a fight with her fiancé, Joe McCann.
Ashlee was found unconscious in her villa at a fancy resort during what was supposed to be a birthday getaway in April. The Tanzania Police say that an employee did a wellness check when no one answered the door and found her inside a wardrobe.
According to the report, Ashlee died from a quarrel with her fiancé several days before her death. After the argument, the resort staff put the two in different rooms.
The tragedy happened just after Ashlee posted a video online of Joe proposing to her on a safari ride they had earlier in their trip.
In the aftermath, Joe was questioned by local police and had his passport temporarily confiscated, but wasn’t arrested or charged.
Following Ashlee’s death, Jenae’s family disagreed with the conclusion of the investigation. They said they couldn’t believe she’d do something like that to herself.
