Teyana Taylor Claps Back on Kayla Nicole’s ‘Shady’ Story Told on Angel Reese’s Podcast

Teyana Taylor seems to shoot back at Kayla Nicole, after the YouTuber made some controversial comments while on the podcast Unapologetically, with Angel Reese. The episode went viral, during which Nicole spoke about a personal story that many fans felt involved in Taylor. That Nicole was sharing the story in such a manner and picking her words just so propagated speculation that went through the roof on social media.

The drama went down when Nicole remembered a dating story that she described as one of her “favorite crazy Kayla stories.” On the podcast, Nicole said she was seeing the guy who abruptly called it quits through text message because he wanted to be with a famous singer and actress.

“So I was dating a guy, and he dumped me through a text message. He dumped me for this singer/actress who was huge at the time. He dumped me for her. Lied about it for months then popped out with her and it became this public thing,” Nicole said, describing the celebrity couple’s relationship as “iconic.” Nicole added the breakup hurt so deeply that she responded by dressing up as the famous woman for Halloween later that year.

Although Nicole didn’t name names, it did little to stem the tide of the internet making a few educated guesses that the woman in question was, in fact, Taylor. For many, the reference to Nicole’s Halloween costume seemed to cinch the link, which allegedly replicated Taylor’s look from Kanye West’s iconic “Fade” music video. Social media went into a frenzy, trending both Taylor and Nicole’s names as people debated the anecdote.

As the online chatter started to swell, it seemed like Taylor responded with a very cryptic Instagram post featuring a video of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes from TLC. The clip included a soundbite in which Lopes says, “And everyone get ready to do your math,” which fans have been taking to mean a very subtle response from Taylor amid the rumors between her and Nicole.

But subtlety stopped being an option for Taylor. On Friday, she made a long comment on an Instagram post by The Shade Room, which had featured a tweet she earlier shared over the podcast episode. In the comment, an upset Taylor addressed the situation head-on and called Nicole’s remarks “distasteful” and “uncalled for.”.

Screw the Iman part, I’m divorced and happy so, however, her choice of words was very distasteful and uncalled for. She knew exactly what she was doing. That lady said ‘she was famous at the time’ all said ‘idc who see it’ it was very distasteful and uncalled for,” Taylor wrote.

The star of Book of Clarence went on to say that Nicole deliberately dropped those comments, knowing full well it would spur speculation and drag Taylor into the conversation without even being directly named.

Well, well-wishers of the two ladies quickly went back into the timeline of events, highlighting that Taylor and her now ex-husband, former NBA player Iman Shumpert, were linked romantically in 2013 and went public in 2014. They got engaged in 2015 and married the following year. Although they seemed to be one of Hollywood’s stronger unions, Taylor filed for divorce in January 2023, though the news broke well into the year. In June of 2023, their divorce was finalized.
