After captivating audiences worldwide, The Little Mermaid has made a significant impact on Disney+ this weekend.

The live-action version of the beloved animated musical, which stars Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, has become the most-watched Disney movie premiere on Disney+ since Hocus Pocus 2. It has accumulated 16 million views within its first five days of streaming. This success on Disney+ comes after a successful run in theaters during the summer.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the film earned $117.5 million in North America over Memorial Day weekend and was one of the top five highest-grossing films domestically during the summer, with a total of nearly $300 million.

Additionally, The Little Mermaid, featuring Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, and Awkwafina, is among the top ten films worldwide in 2023, having earned $570 million at the global box office.

The film has received praise from audiences, with an “A” CinemaScore and a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Building upon the legacy of the original 1989 classic, The Little Mermaid continues to bring the story to life through various forms of entertainment, including merchandise, theme park attractions, video games, books, and theater productions. The release of the live-action version has also boosted engagement for the animated films on Disney+.
