HBO Sports Documentary film “The Unbreakable Tatiana Suarez,” directed by Cassius Corrigan, is set to captivate audiences as it debuts on Wednesday, January 31 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with streaming available on Max.
The documentary unfolds the inspiring journey of mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Tatiana Suarez, showcasing her indomitable spirit and determination as she readies herself for a comeback after a nearly four-year hiatus due to injury. Reflecting on her path from wrestling prodigy to a professional athlete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Suarez’s narrative becomes a testament to resilience, leaving a lasting impact on young women, particularly within the Latina community.
Suarez’s rise began as a teenage wrestling sensation in the United States, poised for Olympic glory in 2012. However, a devastating neck injury during training shattered those dreams and revealed an even more formidable opponent – thyroid cancer. Battling through years of depression, injury, and illness, Suarez found solace and strength in Jiu Jitsu at an MMA gym.
In the documentary, Suarez recounts her seemingly insurmountable journey to becoming one of the world’s top female pro MMA fighters. With intimate access to her rehabilitation, training, and fights, combined with home videos and career footage, “The Unbreakable Tatiana Suarez” unfolds as a portrait of extraordinary talent and remarkable resilience, serving as an inspiration for the next generation of female athletes.
The film features poignant interviews with Suarez’s family, including her mother Lisa, brother Chris, and grandmother Suzanne, along with key figures like Romie Aram (head coach), Andy Galpin, Ph.D. (strength and conditioning coach), and Patrick “Patchy” Mix (cornerman and pro-MMA fighter). Notable participants also include Dana White, President and CEO of UFC, Terry Steiner (head wrestling coach for Team USA), Ariel Helwani (MMA Journalist), Claudia Gadelha (former UFC fighter), and the female athletes of the Northview High School women’s wrestling team, inspired by Suarez.
“The Unbreakable Tatiana Suarez” is a production of HBO Sports Documentaries in association with Dentsu Production and SMAC Productions. Directed and executive produced by Cassius Corrigan, the film is produced by Michèle Ohayon, with executive producers including Kedian Asulei, Cecile Murias, Geneva Wasserman, Michael Strahan, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Fred Anthony Smith. Don’t miss the chance to witness the triumph of an unbreakable spirit on HBO and Max.
