Weeks after receiving zero Grammy nominations despite releasing a chart-topping album, The Weeknd announced that he will not attend or put his work forward for contention at the Grammys moving forward.
In a statement to The New York Times, the artist cited the “secret committees” that determine which artists are nominated for the awards.
The Weeknd boycotting The Grammys after zero nominations for 2021 is very understandable. He had the fourth highest selling album on 2020 and his monstrous hit song ‘Blinding Lights’ became the first song to ever spend a whole year inside the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Starboy “joins a growing list of Black stars, like Drake, Kanye West and Frank Ocean, whose public rebukes of the Grammys are a threat to an institution that views itself as a supportive home for the entire music community.
