A TikTok creator claims this was the first time she has ever been racially profiled as she was walking down the street in Jackson, Mississippi. An older white lady pulls up, claims she’s taking pictures of the creator, and calls the cops because the creator looks Asian and shouldn’t be in this country.’
The TikToker Xenia Minton, a U.S. citizen adopted from China, spoke about the incident in a 2026 video. It occurred to her “a few hours ago” while she was out walking in her neighborhood, as she does daily.
“OK, no one can tell me that racism is dead in 2026, because I just got racially profiled,” Minton said in the video. She was recovering from the flu and apologized in advance for her voice.
Minton reported she was wearing a tank top, blue leggings, and AirPods when she was speaking on the phone when the woman pulled over.
“I literally thought the lady had pulled me over to ask for directions or help,” Minton recalled. “And then she was like, ‘911 is being called.'”
The woman said to her, “I’m taking photos of you now. I already called the police,” and then left on the main road.
Minton reported that she froze and never even considered taking a picture of the woman’s license plate or recording the encounter, which her friends later told her she should have done.
“I didn’t even process it until later when I was talking to all my friends, and they were all saying, like, you just got racially profiled,” she said.
The woman’s friends had also speculated that she might be calling the immigration authorities, and Minton, in particular, was shocked by the suggestion, given the woman’s background.
“I’m adopted from China. I’ve lived in the United States my entire life,” she said. “Like, I have all my paperwork. Everything’s good to go. Don’t worry.”
In the TikTok video, Minton said she chose to share the incident after others encouraged her to do so.
“People told me I should make a TikTok about it because I’m trying to go viral,” she said. “So if there’s anything to go viral over, maybe it’s this.”
