Doja Cat dropped the reds for her hit single and switched to blue at the Dallas stop of her Tour Ma Vie World Tour concert Wednesday night. The color change in the song happens after a historic victory for Democrats, who got control of Congress and got themselves a Senate seat in Texas, an office not won by Democrats for many years.

According to the video evidence, the 31-year-old singer and rapper painted “Paint the Town Red” blue during her concert at the American Airlines Center arena. In the chorus, she sang about herself as someone who could paint the town BLUE instead of the color mentioned in the song title.

Fans on X appreciated the gesture, while some fans called it iconic.

This tour happened a day after Democrats won the Texas elections.

Talarico, a Texas state representative and former schoolteacher, became a U.S. senator when he defeated incumbent Texas attorney general Republican Ken Paxton, according to the Associated Press call of results shortly after 10 p.m. Talarico became the first Democrat to win a U.S. Senate seat since 1988. With almost all results counting on Wednesday morning, his victory makes up nearly 55%, according to the Texas secretary of state.

“We just took back Texas,” Talarico said.

The latter conceded soon after the race was called, allowing Talarico to inherit the seat held by Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who lost it in the primary runoff to Paxton. Cornyn congratulated his successor and promised help with the transition.

In the race for governor, the Democratic state representative from Austin defeated incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who was seeking his fourth term, according to The AP. Talarico will be the first Democratic governor in Texas after Ann Richards leaves office in 1995 and the first Latina governor.

Abbott conceded Tuesday evening after reviewing results from every county, telling his followers that mathematically he had no chance of winning. Since 1996, when he first appeared on the ballot in a general election (Texas Supreme Court), Abbott had never lost any.

Nationally, Democrats became the majority in both chambers of Congress. Before election day, Republicans led the Senate 53 to 47 and the House 218 to 214.

Democrats won enough Republican seats to gain control of the Senate, with 51 senators. This party won at least seven seats in Texas, Kansas, Iowa, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and kept battleground seats in Georgia and Michigan.

According to multiple sources, Democrats won more than three needed seats early Wednesday and are now closer to a House majority for the first time since 2008. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the current leader of the Democratic Party in the House, will become the next Speaker. Chuck Schumer, a Democratic Senate leader, will most likely become the majority leader of this chamber again.

Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” became her first solo No. 1 on the Hot 100 after being released on her 2023 studio album Scarlet. It led the charts in 19 countries. This song samples Dionne Warwick’s recording of “Walk On By” done in 1964.

Tour Ma Vie World Tour is a support tour for her fifth album Vie, released in 2025. This tour began in New Zealand in November of the same year and has already played in Australia, Asia, South America, Mexico, Africa, and Europe, before coming to the USA and Canada. Rapper Latto opens her concerts in these places.

On Election Day, Doja Cat performed at Austin’s Moody Center. Her next shows are in San Antonio and Houston, Texas, on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
