Serayah ended her engagement and relationship with Joey Bada$$, her son’s father, after he allegedly cheated. The actress took to Instagram and shared a statement explaining her decision, which she says is done to protect herself. “There comes a point in a woman’s life when choosing herself is no longer an option, it becomes necessary…” She also confirmed the news and said that, after much thought, she made the tough choice to break up with her fiancé. “After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child, Joey.” They have dated since 2023, had their son in June 2025, and announced their engagement one month later.
According to Serayah, she was totally committed to Joey and their family. “I loved deeply, believed wholeheartedly in the life we were building, and wanted nothing more than to protect our family.” She has also explained how things went down with Joey and what caused them to part ways. “Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life.” These claims are the first time that Serayah has opened up about their breakup.
Serayah kept explaining her decision; the star says she doesn’t want to take anything away from Joey and isn’t seeking revenge. “I share this not for sympathy, retaliation, or to publicly tear anyone down. I share it because too many women are taught to question themselves before they question what is happening right in front of them.” She urged women to listen to their gut feeling and said, “If your intuition is telling you something is wrong, listen to it.”
Also, she urged women not to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their relationship. “Don’t make yourself smaller to keep someone else comfortable. Don’t compromise your values because you’re afraid of losing the future you imagined.” She also encouraged women not to allow other people to define their worth through their choices. “And don’t allow someone else’s choices to become a referendum on your worth.” She ended by saying love doesn’t require you to lose yourself. “Love should not require you to abandon yourself.”
Although these stars’ romantic lives may have ended, Serayah is still willing to look after their son’s interests. “I will always respect the fact that we share a beautiful son, and my priority will be protecting his peace, privacy, and relationship with both of his parents.” She added, “For that reason, I won’t be discussing the intimate details of our relationship publicly beyond what I have shared here.” She ended with a message of looking ahead. “This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would. But endings can also be beginnings.”
