Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have broken up.
A source confirmed to People Magazine Monday that the Wicked co-stars had already quietly gone their separate ways “several months” ago, a detail that raises an obvious question: how long exactly were they keeping up appearances?
The two were first linked in July 2023 after meeting on the set of Wicked, a film that coincided with the end of Slater’s marriage. Grande, 32, played Glinda. Slater, 34, played Boq. Romance, apparently, ensued.
They finally went Instagram official in November 2024, more than a year after the relationship became public knowledge, and spent the better part of the last year and a half showing up together at promotional events for Wicked and its sequel, Wicked: For Good, all while, per the source, the relationship had already quietly collapsed.
The split is being described as “amicable,” with the insider insisting the two “gave lots of time and careful consideration” before calling it. They are, the source assures, “still friends and very supportive of one another.”
As for Grande, she is reportedly “doing great” and has moved on to more pressing matters, namely her Eternal Sunshine Tour and her upcoming album Petal, due July 31. In March, she posted a rare public message of support for Slater’s off-Broadway play Marcel on the Train, which he co-wrote and starred in.
