A man sustained severe injuries on Friday evening after being chased and then lifted up into the air by an agitated bison in a Yellowstone National Park campground.
What transpired was captured on camera by professional photographer Mike MacLeod, an eyewitness to the incident. MacLeod says that the unidentified man, along with his grandson, was photographed walking when a bison about a hundred yards away charged at them. Apparently, the two had stopped to photograph the animal lying down in a dirt patch.
After the bison stood up, the man realized trouble might be brewing and ran with his grandson behind a few trees. The video clearly shows the man moving among the trees to position himself between the animals as they came near him.
The bull attacked the man with one of its horns, flinging him into the air, as seen in the video footage.
In addition, MacLeod stated that campers around were giving the animal a wide berth and cautioning others as it walked through the campground.
The man’s condition has been reported as serious. The extent of his injuries was not known, nor was it known whether he was taken to a hospital.
