White Woman Says “White Parents Do Not Discipline Their Children for Racism”

TikTok user Kylie Brewer made a video in which she claims that white parents do not discipline their children for racist behavior and bullying and connects the described parental practices with mass violence in the country.

The title of the video is “Wh!te people have a parenting problem.” The changed spelling is a popular social media trick to bypass automatic moderation.

At first, Brewer mentions three main points in her video.

“There are three primary things I wanna point out in this video. #1 is the fact that white parents do not discipline their children for racism,” she said. “Racist comments start at a very young age for most white people because they simply repeat things that they overhear in their environment.”

She states that children usually repeat the language they do not understand.

“Children might come home and be talking about things that are inappropriate, like skin tones or calling someone brown or black in a derogatory way, which is a learning experience for these kids,” Brewer adds. “And that is when the white parents should sit down and educate them on what racism is and how it is wrong to be mean to someone because they have a different color skin. Because kids do notice these things. They don’t assign meaning, but that is the point: to educate them.”

Her second point is related to bullying.

“#2: Childhood cruelty and taunting and bullying is very, very common. And again, white parents do not use this as an opportunity to discipline their children,” Brewer says. “They simply allow the bullying until eventually it turns on the parents. I don’t know if you’ve seen, but a lot of white parents get yelled at by their children. That is a very, very normal thing in white households.”

Brewer finishes the video by connecting her argument to mass shootings.

“And finally, not disciplining your child and making sure that they are healthy and cared for all around is what causes a lot of mass violence,” she said. “Because again, most of the people who have access to weapons and are going into places and killing… are white. Do better.”
