Law enforcement authorities have made another arrest related to the s** crimes investigation, which involves a former fifth-grade teacher in St. Martin Parish.
The authorities arrested Cortney Burleigh, 37, from Breaux Bridge, and she was booked in the St. Martin Parish Jail on three felony counts – indecent behavior with juveniles/accessory after the fact, cruelty to juveniles, and obstruction of justice.
According to a press release, Burleigh is implicated in a joint investigation by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation into Marisa Noel, a former teacher at Teche Elementary School.
The criminal investigation into Noel started on January 28, following the allegation that there had been an inappropriate relationship between her and one of her former students, the press release said. As a second victim came up, Noel was re-arrested for committing other offenses, and LBI agents arrested Burleigh at that point over her involvement in the second victim case.
Noel is currently charged with 29 crimes, including 18 counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, first-degree r***, seven counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor, two counts of possessing child s******a materials, and unlawful communications.
“We will continue to support our partners across the state and bring to justice anyone who exploits or s******y abuses the children of Louisiana,” Attorney General Liz Murrill said in a statement.
As of press time, both Burleigh and Noel were still in custody.
