In a candid revelation, celebrated actress and television personality Whoopi Goldberg has bravely shared details of her battle with cocaine addiction during the early stages of her illustrious career. Goldberg, known for her roles in iconic films such as “Ghost” and “Sister Act,” delves into her tumultuous past in her upcoming memoir, shedding light on the allure and dangers of drug use in the 1980s entertainment scene.

According to excerpts from her memoir, Goldberg admits to being heavily addicted to cocaine, a habit that spiraled out of control despite her initial reservations about drug use. “In the ’80s, cocaine was seen as a party drug, and I didn’t truly realize the effects it had on me until I reached a low point,” Goldberg recounts.

Reflecting on her descent into addiction, Goldberg recalls a harrowing moment when she found herself on a two-day binge in a hotel room, oblivious to the world around her. “Then cocaine started to kick my ass,” she writes. “I’d go to work and realize I was getting sloppy. I was sitting on the closet floor, just putting it up my nose,” she shares, highlighting the isolating nature of her addiction.

Goldberg’s wake-up call came when a housekeeper stumbled upon her unconscious on the floor, cocaine residue smeared across her face. Confronted with the stark reality of her situation, Goldberg knew it was time to make a change. “I looked at myself in the mirror near the door and saw cocaine all over my face,” she recalls. “Get up, get out, and fix your life,” she resolved.

The Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award-winning star credits this pivotal moment with her decision to seek help and overcome her addiction. “I had already decided that I was willing and ready to stop, so I was going to do whatever I needed to stop putting drugs up my nose,” she asserts, demonstrating her determination to reclaim control of her life.

Goldberg’s memoir offers a raw and unfiltered account of her journey, serving as both a cautionary tale and a source of inspiration for others struggling with addiction. By sharing her story, Goldberg hopes to destigmatize discussions surrounding substance abuse and encourage individuals to seek support when needed.
