The Bolt app is a transportation service app overseas. It’s like Uber or Lyft to Americans in some countries overseas. Unfortunately, there has been so many rape accusations with Bolt drivers these last couple of years.
In 2021, a 16-year-old girl in Thailand was raped and drugged while trying to go home. The young girl said “I found myself naked in a motel room, and there was a camera recording me. The driver was in the room, but he was taking a shower in the bathroom.” An medical examiner at Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital has confirmed she was raped and drugged. Tanong Buakham has since been identified as her attacker and has been arrested. During this time, Bolt customers in Thailand can only report an emergency or complaint via its app or by email. The driving service company told Coconuts that driver applicants must provide their driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and national ID numbers but did not mention criminal background checks.
Bolt has launched its own service for women to request female drivers in response to this case but another rape incident may have occurred with one of their drivers this week. A Twitter username (@luluthebearr) recently claimed her friend was raped by a Bolt driver. She posted a picture of the alleged rapist named Emmanuel and claimed he strangled her friend half to death which ultimately led to him taking her friend’s virginity. The woman also claimed Bolt doesn’t care about their customers safety, while pointing out their instagram page is filled with people complaining about assault. The woman finished it off by saying they have done nothing about the situation. Check out the entire Twitter thread here.
