An interesting TikTok video discussing how expensive homes are and the problems associated with the lack of financial resources to purchase them has become popular on social media. Indeed, millions of people across the United States have difficulty purchasing an affordable home.
The woman named Hannah Hayley talks about houses priced between $500,000 and $1 million located near her residence. However, she thinks that some of the houses are very basic and cannot be priced that high, as they are too high for them.
In particular, Hayley asks a rhetorical question: “Why is every home a million dollars or, if it’s not a million, it’s half a million? I hate to break it to some of you, but some of these homes aren’t worth half a million to a million dollars. They’re basic homes with a roof and walls and a little backyard”.
Hayley claims that being an adult in the 2020s was quite unfortunate for her generation because the economic situation is terrible. Moreover, the young woman notices that other expenses are growing, such as the cost of purchasing fuel. For example, filling a 2015 Honda Fit used to cost $25; however, it now costs nearly $45- $50.
“I understand the state of the economy is down the drain right now. Something’s got to give, and it’s either the economy or some of you, or it’s going to be me because right now I want off this rock”.
@_hannah.hayley_ This housing market is gonna be the death of me. I don’t know what to do, but I sure as shit know that some of these homes are not worth a million dollars… #housingcrisis #housingmarket #wtf #home #fyp

Hannah mentions that despite the difficult financial situation, her expectations regarding homeownership are low. Thus, she would like to find a house with a yard or backyard and even a garden. At present, the woman does not think she will ever own any property. Therefore, her main goal for the future is to get out of the apartments.
The video reflects the problems many Americans face in the USA today. In 2026, the median home value in the US is $361,000, and the country needs around 7.2 million additional rental homes for the lowest-income population. Conditions in big cities are much worse than those described above.
