A judge overturned the conviction of Adnan Syed and ordered his release.
Syed was 17 when he was convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee in 2000. Prosecutors say new evidence uncovered 2 new possible suspects. His case was featured in the podcast “Serial.”
Maryland prosecutors have 30 days to decide whether to seek a new trial for Adnan Syed or fully drop his case. The judge ordered him to stay in home detention.
He has been in prison for 23 years after being convicted as a teen for murdering Hae Min Lee. He is now 41.
