The hashtag #RacismAtTAMUFeelsLike started trending on Twitter today because students Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Asian students at Texas A&M University shared some of their experiences in and out of the classrooms.
A group of students at The Texas A&M University are using Twitter as a tool to reclaim their voice in the face of adversity. They are making their voices heard on social media so everyone in the world will know that the school needs to make changes to protect their students.
Check out some of these students Tweets:
#RacismAtTAMUFeelsLike being taken to a dean because when I was turning in an exam and showing my ID, a TA didn’t believe it was mine because my “name is too white to match” me so I was obviously cheating. I only got an apology. The TA was not fired. #hateisthehiddencorevalue

Being excited to finally have your first Latinx female prof & then finding out she had to take leave bc students were sending hateful emails bc of her identity & feeling like there will never be a place for me if my own prof isn’t respected.— motomami anna 🏍 (@motoanna_sup) June 16, 2020
#RacismAtTAMUFeelsLike people defending the Sul Ross statue for the sake of “tradition” but not acknowedging this man fought to keep Black people enslaved and murdered many Indigenous people. And Black & Indig students are reminded of that anytime we walk through Academic Plaza.
