Woman Say LA’s Self Care Culture Is Making People Bland and Lazy

This content creator believes Los Angeles’s self-care culture is to blame for the decline in discipline, sociability, and the desire to work toward personal success.

Sabrina Mella posted a video titled “Living in LA has made me realize how bland and boring and selfish people have gotten”. The creator says hardships cannot be avoided because avoiding them has cost people their character, habits, and social connections.

“I think living in LA has made me realize how bland and boring people have gotten over the years, and also how freaking lazy,” Mella said. “Everyone’s always talking about the, oh, self-care, like, me first, like, oh, I gotta put me first. Like, babe, I get it. But it’s like, to a certain point, for example, there’s a lot of people who are like, oh, me first. Like, I, like, I don’t wanna get a job. That’s just gonna make me, like, struggle, like, a little bit, you know, like, me first, self care, like, babe, it’s fine. Struggle builds character.”

“I feel like people need more struggle nowadays cause y’all want the easy life so [expletive] bad, okay?”, Mella said.

According to her, the creator reached this condition after a lot of effort.

“And you see, like, honestly, I feel like I’m living an easy life now, but I feel like I worked six years for this life, and I’m not even that much of a big content creator at all compared to the other ones I’ve seen who do the same thing as I do,” she mentioned.

Moreover, Sabrina said that the people she met there are predictable.

“But living in LA, like, the people that I’ve met, just like, one are unemployed, two are living paycheck to paycheck, which is fine, but three, they’re like, why? I don’t wanna get a job? Because I don’t want to struggle because me, self-care, me first,” Mella said. “Like, babe, I get it, you want to live a soft life, but, like, that’s just not how life works.”

“And also, I just feel like it’s making people bland. I feel like people who have a little bit of trauma have faced struggle, you know what I mean? Like, struggle is not always bad, babe. It’s good,” Mella added.

Sabrina connects the trend with the problem of discipline.

“Random thought, but I also think people have gone to like, ooh, self-care, self-care, like, way too much to the point where people are losing discipline,” she said. “People are skipping the gym, people are skipping people’s birthday parties cause you’re like, ooh, I don’t feel good. Like me for self-care. And then they complain that they don’t have friends.”

She finishes the video calling people to create connections.

“Like, babe, to make friends, you can’t be doing too much of that. Oh, self-care. Me first. Like, stop. Like, literally stop,” Mella said. “To have a community, you gotta be willing to sacrifice your time to build relationships. And that’s my rant. Okay, bye.”
