Woman Says Being Settled For Is Her Worst Nightmare: “I’d Rather Be Single”

In the following video clip by Ellen Eshenko, you may hear an argument that having a partner who won’t settle for anything less than a perfect match is far from a nightmare. The video is titled “Being the girl a dude ‘settles’ for is genuine nightmare fuel.”

In the very beginning, Eshenko describes what, in her opinion, may be considered the worst-case scenario in a relationship.

“I think there’s genuinely nothing scarier than ending up in a relationship where the dude like half a** likes you and you were low key just somebody he settled for cause you were like the right choice or like the safe or like the healthy choice instead of the one that he actually wanted,” she said.

Eshenko says many couples are experiencing this, and she addresses them with a great deal of sympathy.

“And to think that there’s so many couples out there who like genuinely and I like I say this with like a lot of empathy because I I don’t I don’t wish that on people to think there’s so many couples out there that that did do that and they’re just together cause it’s like companionship and they’re happy enough,” Eshenko said.

Being seen as a good enough option instead of a preferred one makes her feel very uncomfortable.

“Like the idea of being somebody’s good enough like good enough like yeah, she’s pretty she’s pretty like she’s gonna be loyal I’ll stick with her like I’d rather just take me out. I’d rather be single. I’d, I’d literally rather be single,” she said.

Next, Eshenko addressed women who have experienced this situation before.

“And also if you’re a girl and you’ve been in relationships where like the dudes like didn’t they just like they liked you but just not enough you also know how f***ing lonely it feels like I’d I’d look like literally take me out,” she said.

Then, she described how this type of relationship affects a person.

“It’s so not worth it cause it drains your life energy the whole time you’re sitting there wondering like why didn’t didn’t he like me at that level like that the whole relationship you’re you’re there constantly overthinking constantly trying to pick up the slack or make up for s*** when in reality there is nothing to make up for,” Eshenko said.

One cannot fix everything just by trying to become more desirable, she adds.

“You can’t change or, or like love somebody into loving you or like seeing you and feeling like you’re the one for them,” she said.

Her requirement is enthusiasm, and everything else means that it is time to leave.

“And if it’s not that if it’s not a hell yes like I don’t even want anything to do with relation this is why I don’t date like I don’t go on casual days with people cause like I just can’t do a non hell yes and anytime things stop feeling like a hell yes I’m like why am I here? So I just can’t, I can’t wrap my head around it,” she said.

To make her point even clearer, she gives a strong example.

“And it literally feels like like I always say I’d rather chew wet jeans than be with the dude that just like just enough likes me to lock it down no I want somebody who’s like okay I’m not gonna get into what I want but like I it just eww like a just good enough that can’t be like what my life amounts to that can’t,” Eshenko said.

She also observes a similar situation in couples around her, even though she does not consider it settling.

“And so many I see so many couples like that that’s literally what they’re like their relationship just like is just a good enough like they it’s not I wouldn’t say like they’re settling for each other but they both probably would do better if they could do better or if they thought they could do better so they’re like hmm I don’t really feel like looking any further,” she said.

However, what she considers missing in such couples is an intimate connection.

“But like you don’t get like the joyous, like deep love with that person because like you’re not their person,” Eshenko said.

At the end of her message, she expresses that she would rather be single.

“I don’t know. It’s just, oh, I choose to be alone. That’s if that’s the alternative; I choose to be alone. I’ll wait for the person that feels like a hell yes. And if it’s not there, I’m, I’m good. Don’t like to pollute my energy with this, like, half a** s*** like that,” she said.
