Woman Says She Quit P*rnography After 10 Years: “I Had to Surrender All Areas of That”

A TikTok user who creates content about overcoming addictions states she won against a 10-year fight with p*rnography by surrendering it to God, rather than fighting it alone.

According to Adria Kathleen, she developed a p*rnography addiction when she was 13 years old, and it continued until recently.

“I’ve been addicted to p*rnography since I was the age of 13 until just a couple years ago; I was able to quit after giving my life over to Jesus,” she said. “But so much has transpired in that time where I feel it’s appropriate to be more transparent about what actually transpired.”

According to Kathleen, at first she tried to solve the problem using only her willpower, which, from the current perspective, was a mistake.

“I stopped watching p*rnography, and I feel like the Lord definitely had a huge part in that,” she said. “However, I almost had this, like, determination in me to stop sinning. And I think that in itself is outside of God’s will because you’re making. I was making myself Lord of my life instead of allowing him to do the transformation inside of me, to sanctify me in his own time, to deliver me in his own timing. Instead, I wanted to kind of just do things in my own will, in my own strength. And that alone is just not. That’s not a Christ-centered way to go about overcoming any sin.”

In her opinion, this approach contradicts the concept of spiritual growth.

“You know, anytime you’re like, tackling sin, like, I’m gonna tackle this sin, I’m gonna tackle that sin. That’s not how the Holy Spirit works,” she said. “The Holy Spirit is gonna come in and do things in his timing. He’s gonna take you through your own sanctification process. Like, he’s not going to hand you the keys and say, ‘Okay, you got it; stop sinning.’ No, the God of the universe, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, he is so much kinder than that.”

She found out that her motivation for changing things was prideful and selfish.

“And I really thought that I could just do it like, I’m a strong-willed person. I’m a strong-willed person. I was born that way,” she said. “I needed to look at my heart and be like, okay, I’m operating out of pride. I’m operating out of an independent woman, trying to get everything done, trying to do everything myself. That’s just not Christ, you know? And so I had to surrender all areas of that. I had to go through deliverance. I had to go through sanctification.”

In her opinion, the process is continuous.

“I’ll probably never be fully sanctified, right? Because it’s a lifelong thing, you know, I gotta pick up my cross and follow Jesus every single day,” she said.

Kathleen concluded her post with advice for others struggling with the same issue.

“I think a lot of people get confused like, okay, how can I stop sinning? How can I stop doing this? And it’s like, no, the Holy Spirit has to bring you. He has to carry you the way, you know what I mean?” she said.
