Woman Says She Would Choose Single Motherhood Over Marriage: “I Know This Is So Controversial”

A woman named Twinkle Stanly shared an opinion on social media that she might be happier raising a child alone than with a partner.

The TikTok video title reads, “My unhinged take is that I think I’d be happy as a single mum.”

The opinion came to her when she saw her sister, who had gone through a divorce, just shortly after giving birth to a baby.

“My sister is a single mum, and I saw her get divorced at the age of 27 when her baby was just a few weeks old,” Stanly said. “My niece was literally like 4 to 5 weeks old. And my sister went through that entire divorce process, and I saw her raise the child. Now, although it is very challenging, obviously, to be a single mum, cause you don’t have to, to share that load, I also saw the fact that she never had to constantly keep teaching a man to support her, which a lot of women have to go through, unfortunately.”

She knows her opinion will not be liked by many people.

“The reason why I think I might prefer to be a single mum, I know this is so controversial and nothing like literally not what anybody wants to hear, or anybody wants in their life. I just feel like maybe the peace that I get from not having to teach a man is very valuable. Because no matter how amazing the guy is, the mental load is simply not equal,” she added.

And Stanly concluded that she would be ready to face the realities of parenthood head-on.

“So I would accept that from the get go and have a child only if I’m willing to go through that unequal distribution of mental load and physical labour, the gap that is gonna cause in my career and the fact that my entire life is gonna be on hold and I wouldn’t bring life into this earth assuming that a guy is gonna help me through it because I don’t think they’re very reliable. So yeah,” she said.
