An Indian woman on TikTok @roopzthereitis shared a video wherein she alleged that anti-Black racism is prevalent among Indian Christians. She stated that her mother, who is a frequent visitor to the church, is racist against her fiancé and children.
“There is a higher chance that if the Indian person is Christian that they are anti-Black,” she explained. “In our Indian Christian community, it is more acceptable, it is more forgiving to be in a marriage where the husband is a domestic abuser, an alcoholic, a cheater. It’s more acceptable to be in that type of marriage than it is to marry a black person who is a decent person.”
She explained that her mother is a devout Christian and has study materials on the table where she watches online church service.
“My mom is a hardcore Christian person, and she has, like, stacks of notebooks and Bibles at the computer table where she watches sermons of pastors, and yet she turns around and tells my kids that they are not allowed to love my fiancé,” she elaborated.
She went on to talk about a statement her mother made, where she used a substitute word in place of the word that TikTok automatically censors.
“My mom has also told me that she hopes my fiancé will grape my daughter so that I know what pain feels like when, in reality, 60% of the Indian uncles in all of the churches have been sexually inappropriate to young girls,” she added.
The woman explained that this type of racism has made her leave churches.
“I actually stopped going to church because I believe that the majority of the people that go there are very hypocritical,” she says. “They’re very judgmental, and I don’t want to be in a building worshipping god with these types of people.”
