On June 18th, a Chinese national took to Twitter to share a terrifying incident she had while staying at the luxurious Ritz-Carlton resort in the Maldives.
The 26-year-old Chinese tourist who’s goes by (@YolyYitong) on Twitter accused a resort employee named Usham of sexual assault in a lengthy Twitter thread.
She also accused the resort management and Maldivian police of keeping the matter quiet and not taking any coercive action to investigate her case.
To substantiate her allegations, the victim also shared photos of her assault, a photo of the accused, Usham, and a copy of the complaint filed with Maldivian police.
What did Yoly Yitong say on Twitter?
In a lengthy Twitter thread, the victim, a Chinese national currently studying in Australia, stated that she arrived in the Maldives on June 6th and was scheduled to return to China on June 10th, but she decided to extend her stay and checked into the Ritz Carlton Fari Island resort, unaware of the horror that would befall her.
Usham, the victim’s butler, was allegedly assigned to her shortly after she checked into the hotel. After she checked into her room, Usham assisted her in settling in and gave her a tour of the hotel’s amenities.
The victim also stated that the same day, she accidentally poured water on her phone, causing it to be damaged. She explained that she came to the front desk for help because she was worried and didn’t know how to contact her family. They dispatched Usham to assist her.
Usham, according to the victim, came into her room and offered her his phone. She put her sim card in Usham’s phone and called her parents. Usham then sat on her bed and began having conversations with her, which were initially quite generic.
‘Why did you come alone, where do you live,’ the girl recalled, adding that later he began asking her personal questions like what she did last night and if she slept outside by the room pool. “That’s when I realized he was watching me.” I also wanted to change the subject. “He briefly left the room and returned because my mother had sent a WeChat,” she wrote.
According to the victim, Usham took a chewing gum in his mouth and asked her if she wanted to kiss him while they were chatting again. The girl became uneasy and informed him that she disliked “physical contact.”
“And he was talking to me again, asking me questions.” And he took a chewing gum and began chewing before asking if I wanted to kiss, which rendered me numb. I was speechless. I declined because I dislike physical contact. In case he didn’t understand, I took my computer and translated it for him,” she says.
In a subsequent tweet, the victim described how the resort staffer attempted to coerce her into having sex with her by saying, “yoly, no need to be ashamed, sex is ok,” but when she refused, he forced his tongue into her mouth.
The girl described how Usham initially mocked her by asking if she was gay because she was not interested in him. He allegedly promised to be a gentleman while he continued to force himself on her. The victim claims he pushed her onto the bed and assaulted.
“I was still in my pyjamas.” He began inserting his tongue into my mouth and stated, “I will be a gentleman.” He then pushed me to the bed and began removing his pants, as well as putting his pen*s in my mouth twice. “He then went ahead and touched me down in my pvt part and tried to intercource,” the girl described the heinous alleged incident.
“I was forcing and attempting to stop him, but he refused. When his attempts to have sex with him failed, he stretched his fingers inside my pvt part. I then stood up and ran, wrapping myself in a quilt. Then he asked if he could touch my breasts to cum. “I refused,” the unfortunate victim added.
She then claimed that the accused ejaculated on her computer screen, then cleaned it with a towel from the bathroom before leaving, saying, “you need time to open up” and promising to return.
The girl recalled how she managed to gather herself after the heinous incident and informed the resort managers of what had occurred, but they arrived at her room and pretended that everything was normal. She demanded that the resort staff contact the police.
The victim went on to say that the resort management tried to cover up the crime by telling her that they would contact the police.
Meanwhile, two staff members went to her room and took her laptop and the towel that had the accused’s sperm on it. She recalled telling the resort staff that those were important pieces of evidence and should be turned over to the police.
After some time had passed, the police arrived at the crime scene and took her statement. The victim also stated that the police took a sample of her mouth and informed her that the results would take a week. They advised her to leave the Maldives before the results were released. In an attempt to keep the matter quiet, the police allegedly told the victim that they had no reason to arrest the accused at that time.
The victim also stated that she underwent a medical examination. “I had bruises all over my body,” the victim wrote, lamenting the Maldivian police’s failure to act on obvious evidence.
“I was then instructed to leave the hotel as soon as possible.” And it has nothing to do with the hotel. And that they are no longer able to arrange my lodging. “I left the hotel with no apology,” she grumbled.
The victim concluded her lengthy Twitter thread by accusing Ritz-Carlton management of fabricating the story in exchange for a free stay.
“@RitzCarlton, you only train your housekeepers to ask for a tip.” You did nothing when I was raped in your hotel. You said I did it to get a free stay. I paid the hotel the full amount. “I’m a Chinese student living in Australia, and my family is well-known and wealthy,” the Chinese student wrote, concluding her post with photos of her assault.
