On Saturday evening, a brawl in Montgomery’s Riverfront resulted in multiple arrests.

Officers from Montgomery Police Department (MPD) responded to a disturbance on Coosa Street. They saw a large group of people engaged in a fistfight on the Alabama River dock.

According to witnesses, the fight erupted over a dispute over a pontoon boat blocking the dock where a riverboat was attempting to dock. Several witnesses recorded videos and shared them on social media.

Montgomery police said the entire incident is being investigated and that there are four active warrants as of Sunday afternoon, with the possibility of more following a review of additional video provided by the public as well as video surveillance from the City of Montgomery.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed issued the following statement regarding the brawl at Montgomery’s Riverfront on Sunday afternoon:

Last night, the Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job. Warrants are being signed and justice will be served. This was an unfortunate incident which never should have occurred. As our police department investigates these intolerable actions, we should not become desensitized to violence of any kind in our community. Those who choose violent actions will be held accountable by our criminal justice system.

While police continue to investigate the incident, it appears that social media detectives have identified the individuals who allegedly started the brawl over the weekend.

Zachary “Chase” Shipman, Richard Roberts, Steve Todd, Rachel Faulkner Todd, Catherine Cromer Martin, Anna Blake Langford, Mary Elizabeth Todd, and Allen Todd are facing backlash on social media.

According to the Selma Times Journal, Chase Shipman, owner of Vasser’s Mini-Mart, has stated Montgomery’s Riverfront Park.

I am sure most of you have seen the news about the riverboat incident. Yes, I was there but I was the first to try to get away,” Shipman posted. “You can see in the video I attached, and I do not condone what happened. I tried to stop it and realized that I could not, so I tried to get away. There is a video of me being the first to run away because what was happening was wrong and I did not want to be a part of it. I realize I have a business to run and represent and no charges were filed against me because I was not involved.

Many people on social media believe Chase Sipman is lying after seeing a video of the incident, which contradicts his statements.

I like when the chick in the green dress hops off the boat. Then takes about 5 good shots to her noggin. Good stuff

Having grown up in a house of hate – a mind numbing experience if there ever was one. I found this incident to be refreshing for racist boneheads to get an “education.” I can only hope that the boycott of Mr Shipman’s business prolongs itself to shut down the place. Especially since he inherited it. Maybe sometime after that he can finally grow up and get in touch with reality.

There’s been too many good people of all colors, who died wearing the American uniform in both peacetime & combat. This sort of nonsense of going after an older dock worker is not only unacceptable but unsustainable as well if one cares to live for very long.
