The young conservative Christians made a TikTok video laying down a set of rules for their yet-to-be-born daughter. The rules state that she is not allowed to have a cell phone until she turns at least 16, an iPad till 13, and she must be in bed by sunset.
They consider themselves traditional parents who base their parenting style on conservative principles and etiquette.
“These are rules that we’re gonna have for our daughter in the future,” the couple said in the video. “No dating until she’s 17. We want the earliest marriage to be when she’s eighteen.”
Explaining the dating rule, they said: “Our daughter dates at age 15. She has three years until she’s 18. She going to responsibly refrain from fornication for that long. I don’t want my child to be tempted with that. She can talk to guys before then, no problem. But the dating, specifically going out on your own without us there for protection, is going to have to wait until seventeen.”
Faith will be central to the child’s upbringing, according to the video.
“She’s also gonna be coming to church with us every Sunday, Wednesday,” the couple said. “Raise her to be Christian as well. We’re gonna give her the gospel from a very young age. We’re gonna raise her and in the nurture and admonition of the. Thank you.”
On technology, the couple said their daughter will not receive “a phone until she’s probably somewhere between 15 to 16.”
“The reason we’re not going to allow our daughter to have a phone before them is for safety,” they said. “It’s a lot of strange things that people on the internet transferring into that sort of teenage era. It’s very awkward. A lot of changes are happening, and a lot of people are looking to capitalize on that. There’s almost no limitations with it.”
Tablets face an even firmer line: “No iPads whatsoever. You don’t want a little iPad kid, like addicted to a screen. No attention span. No attention span? Yeah. No thought process. No. She does have one. We are gonna wait till at least like the age of like 13.”
The couple said their daughter will never be charged to live at home.
“She will never have to pay rent to us,” they said. “We don’t want her to feel rushed. We want her to make wise decisions. Stupidest decisions are the ones that you feel pressure to make because you have no other choice. I wanted to feel like she can stay as long as she wants.”
It looks like even sleepovers are banned.
“No sleepovers. Sleepovers are very dangerous. I think we can all guess why. A lot of people have, like, terrible horror stories from sleepovers,” the couple said. They also listed a “curfew before sunset. For safety.”
The couple said practical skills will be part of their daughter’s education: “Um, she will be taught how to cook and clean. She’ll be taught management skills, financial skills, basic life skills. How to change tires or how to change oil in the car.”
They said they envision traditional roles in her eventual marriage.
“We want her to have very high standards for the guy that she chooses,” they said. “You think that she should be able to basically handle herself, and the really serious situations are what her husband’s for. For me to provide and protect. Her job is to keep the home, take care of the home, nurse the home. If our daughter starts having to delegate resources in those roles, then we failed. So she only has to clean her own room, only be wearing skirts and dresses. She will have the same dress standards that I have for myself. But if she’s in her house, so what situation you’re in?”
The couple pledged that honesty would be met with support rather than punishment.
“If you tell us because you’re in trouble, or if you tell us because you’re uncomfortable, you won’t be in trouble,” they said. “If you ever snuck out, if you ever got in a situation, hit something from us, if you get yourself in trouble, we will always be there to help you get out of it.”
Manners, they said, will be strictly taught: “We are gonna teach her very good manners. Yes, sir. Yes, ma’am. No, sir. No, ma’am. Please. Thank you. She’s gonna be a very well-mannered child.”
The couple closed by describing a savings plan for their daughter: “Should have with $70 put away per month. About $15,000 waiting for her by the time she is eighteen.”
