Zara Larsson Isn’t Giving Up On Selling Out Bangkok: “Maybe I Have To Do These Dances For 47 Days”

Swedish Pop singer Zara Larsson said tickets to her upcoming Bangkok concert are too expensive and that she plans to be personally involved in ticket pricing for her next tour, responding to fan complaints in a video posted to TikTok.

The Bangkok date is the only show on her Midnight Sun tour that has not sold out. Larsson said the prices match what other international artists charge in the Thai capital, but that comparison doesn’t make them affordable.

“Good morning. I’m sitting in the garden. I’m hiding from that man because I hate to rant in front of other people, um, but I basically wanted to say, I’ve obviously seen a lot of the comments as I do, huh? And there’s so many saying that the tickets for Bangkok, which is my only show that’s not sold out for Midnight Sun, are really expensive. And I agree. I think the tickets are very expensive. And even though they’re in line with the market for international shows in Bangkok, it doesn’t make them less expensive,” she said.

Larsson said she wished the tour had offered a lower-priced entry option.

“I really wish we had a, like, cheaper entry tier so that more people could come, because I hate the fact that, like, people genuinely want to come, but they can’t because of the prices. Cause I don’t personally think that a concert should be this, like, super, super exclusive thing or something that you need to save for months for. Like, I just don’t think it should be that inaccessible in general,” she said.

She thanked fans for raising the issue and said that while she does not currently set prices, she expects that to change.

“So I do appreciate you guys bringing that to my attention, because it is something that I truly care about. And even though I don’t set my prices, I feel like as I’ve been touring for the past, um, year, I’ve learned so much, and I feel like I’ve, like, bossed up, you know, like, I’m a boss. And for the next shows, like, for my next tour, I don’t think there’s any reason why I shouldn’t be a part of like ticket pricing or like, I just wanna be more involved essentially,” she said.

Larsson also addressed commenters who called her continued promotion of the show tone deaf. Midway through that portion of the video, she slipped briefly into Swedish, saying “jag bara rantar. Nej, det är TikTok,” which translates roughly to “I’m just ranting. No, it’s TikTok.”

“However, with that being said, I’ve also seen some comments that are like, this is, you know, tone deaf for you to just keep promoting this. And I’m like, jag bara rantar. Nej, det är TikTok. Haha. Oh fuck, I hate that haha. Where was I? Um, yeah. So I don’t think there’s anything embarrassing about, um, promoting my shows and myself because that’s sort of like what I do,” she said.

She attributed the slow sales to a combination of cost and her limited profile in the Thai market.

“And um. Yeah, I think what really is the reason for it not selling is obviously like the prices doesn’t help, but it’s also the demand. Like, I’m just not that popular in Thailand yet. And that’s okay, that’s okay. I feel like as artists or as people in general, I think we’re, um, meant to not meant to. I think it’s like, um, you know, sort of like fake it till you make it, and then you only see the, the wins once they’ve happened, and you’re like, Bangkok sold out, you know? But I think if I do that, if I do nothing, it’s not gonna sell out. Like, that’s just where we at right now,” she said.

Larsson said she wanted fans to follow the process rather than only see the results, adding that she was willing to keep posting promotional videos for as long as it takes.

“And that’s okay. I wanna take you guys with me on the journey cause you can’t be big everywhere. Like, I just sort of like became big in America this year, like last year. So I just want to invite you guys on this series, and maybe I have to do these fucking, um, dances for 47 days. Like, who knows? But imagine how good it will feel. Imagine what a celebration time. Say, let’s come on when we sell it out on the 47th day. Like, you have to just climb the cringe mountain. Like, who gives a fuck? Who gives a fuck? You have to just try. There’s nothing embarrassing about trying. And sometimes, like, life doesn’t just magically happens. You have to go and make it happen. So that’s my little words of encouragements for all. For all of you guys out there, whatever it is that you do,” she said.

She said the promotional videos have reached fans who were unaware of the date, and that she has a personal attachment to Thailand.

“Um, and I feel like the videos work. I feel like I’ve had so many people like, oh, my gosh, I didn’t know you were coming. And that’s sort of like the point with it. And if it doesn’t sell out, whatever, I get to go to Thailand. I get to eat mango sticky rice. Honestly, I. This feels like semi personal to me because I love Thailand. I’ve been there so many times. I used to do 3rd grade in Colanta. Fun fact, like, Thailand raced me. It’s really. No, honestly, is like. Is like a part of my childhood, actually,” she said.

Larsson closed by saying the clips weren’t meant to make anyone feel excluded.

“Um. And it’s definitely not to make anyone, like, the videos are not made to make anyone feel bad if they can’t come. It’s just me promoting my. My show with this silly little dance. Cause it’s just fun. It’s just fun, these guys. And we’re just having fun. And that’s all it is, huh? Okay. If you have any other recommendations for videos I can do to promote, do let me know.
