Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and filmmaker Zolita drops her latest single, “Hell’s Belles.” The track is a pop tune with country elements, marking the beginning of a new phase in the artist’s career dedicated to contrasts and self-discovery.
“Hell’s Belles” was written by Gatlin. Zolita describes it as a sapphic reimagining of the Blake Shelton bro-country hit “Boys Round Here” and an ode to the southern women she has fallen for over the years.
“This is the song that inspired the theme and sound of my next project,” Zolita adds. “It’s a sapphic take on the ultimate bro country song and is an ode to all the southern bad girls I’ve fallen for over the years.”
An accompanying music video for “Hell’s Belles,” directed by Zolita herself alongside director Max Rappaport, tells the story of a detective who has infiltrated a reform camp for troubled girls and found himself a part of a cult of lesbians, eventually falling for their leader, Hell. Actress Tatiana Ringsby, Zolita’s frequent collaborator and star of the “Somebody I F*cked Once” series, plays “Hell.” LGBTQ+ celebrities Kyra Green, Georgia Bridgers, Becky Missal, Lauren Payton, Alyssa Eels, and Sierra Fujita play cult members.
Zolita explains where she finds inspiration for her videos. “The ‘Hell’s Belles’ video was inspired by the six years I spent inside a kundalini yoga cult,” she comments. “It’s my way of processing the experience through humor, fantasy, and pop spectacle.”
In the music video, the audience can explore the themes of seduction, power, sisterhood, and identity. In addition to the main visual release, the artist promises additional scenes and a mockumentary miniseries.
“Hell’s Belles” is out on streaming platforms now.
