As things stand today, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia 2 will cross $1 billion at the global box office within 17 days.

It would be remiss not to mention that it has already accumulated $986.1 million at the global box office, with $232.7 million from the USA and $753.4 million overall.

It would be the second MPA ($1 billion) film of 2025, following Disney’s Lilo and Stitch, and it would achieve this feat faster than any animated film from MPA and PG.

It marks the first time Disney Animation has had two billion-dollar releases. It follows Moana 2, which opened last year. Since 2013, they have made five billion-dollar films: Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana 2, Zootopia, and Zootopia 2.

“Everyone at Disney Animation put their heart, soul, and passion into this film to tell a story full of joy, imagination, and incredible thoughtfulness,” said Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney Animation Studios. “This milestone means the world to us, because more than anything, it means audiences are coming to theaters for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, everyone together, from all walks of life around the world – and that is a Zootopia dream come true.”

Zootopia 2 holds an audience approval rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, is Certified Hot, and has an A CinemaScore.

It broke records on opening day with a massive five-day box office collection of 559.5 million dollars on November 26, establishing itself as the biggest opening ever for an animated film and the biggest opening for 2025.

It also becomes the biggest opening for a Disney animated film. It tops amongst international MPA releases for the year.

In China, Zootopia 2 broke several records. It set a new opening record for an animated non-domestic film, grossing $272 million and becoming the biggest animated non-domestic grossing film within five days.

As of today, it ranks as the No. 2 MPA film of all-time in China, after Avengers: Endgame, with an estimated gross of $447 million. Disney boasts three titles in the top five biggest MPA-released grossing films ever in China.

Although Zootopia 2 remains extremely successful internationally, it has also sparked renewed interest within the franchise.

It has driven record viewing on Disney+ for Zootopia and Zootopia+, with more than 725 million hours viewed worldwide.
