One TikTok user describes her heartbreaking breakup, in which, after eight years, her ex-boyfriend took a break from their relationship and moved away to build a relationship with another person.
This content creator, @ventsbyme, shares her heartbreak in a video about ten minutes long. In the caption, she asks whether women should trust their intuition in similar cases.
“I just found out that the person I was with for eight years, right, left me in February. He’s like, ‘Let’s take a break,’ she describes in her clip.
She was not alarmed by his words at first. “He was living with me and two dogs, but he was traveling for work, so he was away,” she clarifies.
“It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary,” she continues. “We usually come back together, we figure things out, we work things out.”
She didn’t hear from him for the rest of February. After returning from his journey in March, he told her that the relationship was over.
“I’m really ending things with you. Like, I’m going. I’m leaving,” she quotes him.
“So you’re just gonna go and leave everything here? Leave the two dogs we have? Leave all the responsibility to me? You’re just gonna leave?” she tries to understand him.
This heartbreak occurred when she was founding her company.
“Mind you, I was just starting my business, and it was so hard for me,” she notes. “The biggest time of my life. You guys have no idea. He left.”
They have been sexually active on the last night before the breakup, according to her. For the next several weeks, his communications were infrequent; she managed to communicate with him only rarely.
“Hey, congratulations on your business. I hope you’re well. How are the dogs?” the letters contained.
She contacted him in May, and in June, they started their conversation about resuming their relationship.
“I’m so confused as to why he left,” she says. “We start talking more. We start FaceTiming. We start talking like, it’s good. It’s great.”
“I’m like, I miss you. Like, I miss you,” she says. “And then he says, I wanna come home. He says, New York is getting hard.”
“I said, okay, let’s… try again. Like, let’s really, really do it right this time,” she adds.
The conversation was ongoing through July and August, according to her. September became the first month in a long time that he was spending with her.
“This is the first time we’ve ever truly been apart,” she noted.
She sensed something wrong almost from the very first minutes of their meeting.
“While he’s here, I feel like something isn’t right,” she said. “Like you’re not being honest with me. There’s something you’re not telling me.”
He refused to listen to her.
“He told me I was crazy. This is why I left you. You’re insecure, toxic, crazy, and I don’t owe you anything,” she recalled him saying. “We’re not together, but you’re here, staying with me and the dogs.”
“I felt like I was in a hotel room,” she said. “He’d come and go whenever he pleased.”
Before he left, the night before their parting, she recalled him receiving a FaceTime call at 2 a.m. and refusing to answer it. Getting mad with him, she kicked him out of the house.
A week later, he finally told her who called him.
“It was a woman. And I didn’t answer the call. I’m sorry for lying to you,” she recalled him saying.
“Can’t do anything with that now,” she told him. “It will never work, because you’re just not honest.”
Then he said, “It’s over now. That’s it. This is the last time we’ll try.”
She learned the whole story from his brother, who had been her friend for a long time.
“Me and his brother, super close. We all went through a lot together,” she said. “That was going to be my brother-in-law.”
When the brother came to town on business, they met and ate lunch together.
“And then I found out all this stuff,” she said. “I found out that the whole time – from the moment he left me to the time he stayed with me he was in a full-blown relationship.”
“In the month he left me, he started a new relationship,” she concluded.
She had asked him several times whether he was seeing someone else.
“I asked, are you with someone new? Did you meet someone new? Because then I would have had a choice,” she said. “I would have been able to be, you know what? No. Or sure, let’s keep this going.”
She stated that it means he was cheating on his new girlfriend during their reunion, which has included texting, FaceTime, and communicating.
She said he had asked to move in together again, and she thinks he would have left the other woman if she accepted.
“I said, no, I can’t just resume where he left off. Because you left me at the biggest moment of my life,” she said. “I need some time; I need to take it a little slow.”
She said that he had reacted with an ultimatum: “No, you move in with me or I can’t. I’m not doing this. I’m gonna stay in New York.”
“And now it all makes sense,” she said. “He had options; he had backup plans.”
She said he was lying to his new girlfriend, saying he had been somewhere else during the month he was staying with her.
“The whole f***ing month he’s told her he wants to marry her, he loves her,” she said. “He brought around family.”
She also stated that he lied to his family and friends, saying that she was the unfaithful one.
“Everyone was being told that I was the bad guy, that I cheated, that he was faithful during the cheating. And that I had an abortion because I didn’t want his baby,” she said. “Twist of the story, one eighty.”
“Now everyone knows me as the bad guy. His family, his friends,” she said. “I couldn’t defend myself. I couldn’t tell anyone my truth.”
She contacted the new girlfriend directly herself.
“I reached out to her, and I told her the truth,” she said. “Because no one was telling her the truth,” she said. “And I remember when I was that girl, that I didn’t know the truth. No one told me the truth when they had it. And no one gave me a choice. So I told her everything.”
She also couldn’t understand how quickly he moved on to the next woman.
“I just don’t know how you can move on that fast,” she said. “I don’t know how you can go from eight years in a relationship to meeting someone new the same month you leave me, continuing to talk to me throughout the entire relationship.”
“You’re building with her, having sex with me, coming here to visit, staying with me, sexting,” she said. “We’re literally intermingling our lives together.” “Like I’m giving you money, I’m helping you out.”
“And then you’re telling her you’re going to marry her,” she said. “It hasn’t even been a year.”
“I don’t even know who he was anymore,” she added. “You thought you were going to start over, start fresh, and just leave all this behind. You believed you were going to get a clean slate.”
She ended the video venting her anger.
“I’m so mad. I feel so much anger. I’m really f***ed up with hurt because I truly loved him,” she said. “I was in it, man. I did everything for him. I did everything for his brother.”
“I sat through so many things that no one has any idea about,” she continued. “And if people knew what I endured. If they knew everything.”
